Subject: The Truth About Parenting No One Warned Us About

Dear Parents,

There are so many things we wish someone had told us before we had kids. Not just the cute clichés—but the real, raw, and sometimes overwhelming truths. Today, we want to open up about the lessons no one warned us about and how parenting has completely transformed us.

  1. Time Is a Thief

They say time flies when you have kids—and it’s true. But what they don’t tell you is how differently you begin to see time. Every moment feels more precious. Watching a movie becomes a choice. Cleaning the house becomes optional. Time with your kids becomes everything.

We’ve learned to fiercely protect our time. We’d rather do puzzles with our toddler than do dishes. That’s why our house may not always be spotless, and that’s okay.

2. You Might Mourn Your Old Self

Parenting doesn’t just change your life—it changes you. For many of us, there’s a real mourning process that comes with letting go of our old selves. The freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want, disappears. You might feel trapped at first. That’s normal.

But eventually, you find peace in your new identity. We’ve learned to say goodbye to who we were and welcome who we’re becoming. And while that shift is hard, it’s also beautiful.

3. It Forces You to Grow Up Fast

Kids have a way of pulling all your unresolved baggage to the surface. Fears. Insecurities. Childhood trauma. Things you didn’t even know you were carrying.

You can ignore it, or you can face it head-on. But if you want to grow alongside your children, you’ll need to confront it. And when you do, it changes everything.

4. Raising Kids Today Is Just… Different

Our parents had community. They had friends who could stop by unannounced. They didn’t have phones to distract them or social media to make them feel inadequate.

Now, we’re more isolated. We have more information, but less connection. We scroll more and talk less. And that makes parenting lonelier than it used to be.

5. You’ll See the World with New Eyes

Kids make the little things big again. A cow in a field. A red stop sign. A snowflake on the window. Suddenly, you’re seeing the world through their eyes—and it’s magical.

Their innocence pulls you out of your busy adult mind and into the present moment. It’s a gift. One we never expected but are so grateful for.

6. They Will Change You—for the Better

Despite the struggle, we wouldn’t trade this life for anything. Our kids have fast-tracked our personal growth. We’ve become more compassionate, more grounded, and more in tune with who we are.

We’ve grown more in the past three years than we did in the ten years before that. And it’s all because of our children.

7. You’re Not Alone

If any of this resonates with you, we want you to know: you’re not alone. Parenting is hard. And beautiful. And exhausting. And magical. Sometimes all at once.

So if you’ve ever felt like no one warned you how hard it would be—this is your warning. And your reassurance. You’re doing better than you think.
